A Special Wish Foundation, Springfield Chapter has won our Community Heroes Award because of the service they offer to the children in our community. We would like to tell you about a Community Hero. Karen Benkert is the treasure/volunteer of this chapter. Karen works tirelessly every day working on the wishes and contacting the families and scheduling air flights, ect. to make sure every wish runs smoothly. They are all volunteers and do not get paid. Karen even lets ASW use a bit of her house as their office to save the chapter money, having an extra telephone ringing in her home at all different times. With being a volunteer, Karen sometimes puts in over 40 hours a week for the children, just to make sure their wish comes true. Without Karen Benkert this chapter could not go on. You can visit their website here: A Special Wish Foundation, Springfield Chapter. Way to go Karen! Thank you for your dedication and service to our community!

This wonderful dedicated team has collected over 200 used cell phones for soldiers (they are recycled and the company then gives soldiers phone cards to call home). A non-profit organization was started in Feb. 2008 with Wealth & Wisdom called the Senior Dream Center. This organization granted 22 wishes to seniors in 2008.
